Even if a journey of a thousand miles begins with the risk of the first step before his own door, followed by an even seemingly infinite many more steps: Where will they lead each other is unknown to the traveler. When I perceived "a long time," real until 10 June 2008 my, first post in the Chamber Music Chamber published (it was JS Bach's Musicalisches victims), this was done as an experiment, with no great expectations for the future. is now my blog, which meaningful to have found name I'm still a little proud, and with 1 ¾ years in infancy, but this is because of the high mortality of his contemporaries something. During this relatively short time I have some musical plants sprout and wither seen again. I remember with sadness as to Score Daddy's , Leverkuhn , Chamaeleos "2CS and 2Fs" ... Even Avaxhome gets yellow leaves for several weeks, zamorna has its unique contributions withdrawn.
This post is post number 100 in the chamber music chamber. While his on the (at least for me) inevitable Statistics elsewhere the speech is, I celebrate here with two highlights: the historical recordings presented today are (ebenfalls!) 100, namely years old (exactly between 1903 and 1918 were). Josef Hofmann (1876-1957), the Polish-born pianist and composer (and inventors, such as the Wikipedia white), an American citizen since 1926, is one of the finest pianists of all time.
showed an early age, Josef Hofmann's extraordinary talent, so he is already 8 years with concerts in Warsaw. He made his debut with 10 years in the U.S. and was in the 70 days after 52 concerts. After the New York Society for the Prevention of cruelty to children "intervened, gave the patron Alfred Corning Clark, son of co-founder of the Singer sewing machine factory Edward Clark, $ 50,000 on condition that before his 18th Hofmann Birthday no longer press their claims.
The eleven-year old Josef Hofmann, 1887 From 1894 to 1926 as a pianist Hofmann traveled the world. His technique was unlimited, his taste in style completely. Sergei Rachmaninov , the Hofmann piano skills in higher esteem than his own, devoted to him in 1909 his third Piano Concerto , Hofmann never played it but because it appeared to him informally. Hofmann played with some romantic freedoms, but still much more sober than the generation of Liszt and Thalberg-student of him. From today's perspective, especially the unusual improvised modulating appears before the beginning of a work in concert. Sound recordings, however, were never Hofmann thing, as with many of his contemporaries. Without an audience he was sober and impatient. He also deplored that only one version of a work is recorded, but he never played a piece twice in the same way.
Hofmann composed a series of works, in addition to a symphony two piano concertos, of which he published not the first, many piano pieces and as well thanks to the best-known recordings with the composer at the piano for piano and orchestra Cromaticon . He wrote many articles about the correct piano playing and focused on the optimization of the mechanics of pianos, among other things he had to build from Steinway & Sons a piano with narrower keys for his little hands. He was also interested in general technical issues, as reported in more than 70 patents, such as a gas spring for cars and airplanes, which he beginning of the 20th Century, some revenues bestowed.

As my readers know well, my posts have a second part, devoted to the visual arts. If the CD cover art for a no Anküpfpunkt hergibt historical perspective (because it has just been created without artistic standards), I reach into the pool of my personal preferences, and present a painting non sequitur . On the solemn occasion of the 100th Posts I publish here a favorite artist of my childhood, Wilhelm Busch (1832-1908). appeared at the end of last century in the Fünzigerjahre Bertelsmann Lesering a two-volume edition of his selection of comic strips. Edited by Rolf Hochhuth volumes were called "And the moral of the story" or "What is popular is allowed" stood in the library of my parents, and were of me intense, with between fascination and horror iridescent emotion studied. Rolf Hochhuth Edition (far right, is this Rolf Hochhuth , who was employed from 1955 1963 as a lecturer Bertelsmann) is still available in reprint .
From the book "And the moral of the story", pages 286-291, I take the picture story "The Virtuoso A New Year's concert." , which is under the following motto:
For the new year you are welcomed with a
virtuosity on the piano;
He shall lead you with pleasure and favor
By all the wonders of his art
I beg for attention:
